Me. The future President. 2036.

Hello all.

I grew up in Garden City, KS. Garden City is 4+ hours away from Topeka, in Western KS.

I am interested in a lot of things. I play the piano, French horn and I also sing. I love music, specifically a lot of Broadway. I really love reading all types of books. I also love swimming, and I used to competitively swim for over 10 years.

One of my favorite things is debate. I am on the debate squad at Washburn, and it takes a lot of time (hence why I am gone a lot.) One of the most interesting, best things I've ever done. Debate/politics really interests me, and it's become one of my hobbies.

I am studying Mass Media because I want to be a journalist. Specifically, I want to be a combat correspondent in the Marines. I decided to go the military route because I will get a quicker start, better training, and it is an immediate beginning to a world of foreign correspondence. (I am also a History major which is super cool)

I came to Washburn partly because I knew that it was a solid, affordable school, but also because Washburn Debate recruited me. I get most of my scholarship from debate, and I love the team.  I wanted to continue debate and Washburn is the top parli team in the nation. I seriously love debate.

Other stuff: I love Jesus, I have 5 sisters (3 Korean) and 1 brother, and I am in Alpha Phi sorority.

Peace,

Emily Unruh

Introduction

My name is Larissa Morgan. I'm currently a sophomore and I chose Mass Media as my degree because while in Intro to Mass Media everything about Mass Media caught my attention and I wanted to do something that I enjoyed. I chose Washburn because it was close to my family for the time being.  I grew up here in Topeka but didn't graduate from any schools here. I graduated from Fort Osage in Independence Missouri. My interests and hobbies are spending time with my kids, singing, and dancing. I have a 3-year-old son and a soon to be 2-year-old daughter. My emphasis in Mass Media is with Public Relations but I hope to become more with in the media world either through blogging, vlogging, or live broadcasting. I currently live broadcast on an app called Live.me, it’s for people all over the world and you can broadcast talent, games, or you can just go with what your lifestyle is. I am hoping to make a career with Mass Media. Some fun facts about myself are that I know a NFL football player and that I have met 2 WWE wrestlers in person. If you happen to see me on live.me make sure you stop in and just say hi. Hope everyone has wonderful semester at Washburn!

Introduction

My name is Elijah Reed, and I grew up in Topeka, Kansas. I was born in Atlanta, but my family moved here when I was little. I have two brothers. My hobbies include playing basketball, video games, listening to music( mainly Hip-Hop and R&B), and writing. I'm a huge basketball fan as well as a fan of 1990's cartoons and sitcoms. I went to Highland Park High School, and was heavily involved in the theatre department. In fact, I was a part of both of the groups from Highland Park that were ablet to perform at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. When I was twelve year old, I got to interview Jackie Robinson's widow, and I think that impacted heavily on my career choice. I chose to study Mass Media because It has always interested me, and I want to go into creating television shows and films. I think that media, especially music and television, inform, entertain, an speak on social issues in a way that nothing else can. I fell in love with television at a young age, and in addition to performing, I would love to be able to create projects. I chose Washburn University because of the closeness to home, and the down to earth feel of the campus.

Introducing Me: Shelby Edwards

Hey everyone, my name is Shelby Edwards. I grew up in a small town about 9 miles from Joplin, Mo called Riverton, Kansas. I lived there my whole life before moving to Topeka. I am a javelin thrower on Washburn's track team. I love being outdoors and participating in other sports, especially basketball. I also have a passion for dancing. If I'm not choreographing or teaching routines, I'm probably watching videos of other people doing them. I'm a huge ice cream lover and I watch the t.v. show Friends like everyday. I absolutely love meeting new people!!  I actually didn't start off as a Mass Media major. I started out as a Physical Therapy major, until I realized how much I hate taking science courses. I took the mass media intro class last semester because a friend of mine told me it was a fun class and I just needed a credit. I ended up liking it a lot and decided to change my major. I found myself at Washburn mainly because I have a track scholarship, but also because I liked the campus and it is a good distance away from home.

This Is Me

Hello! My name is Brittney Clark. I grew up in a small town outside Kansas City called Bonner Springs. During my childhood I grew up on a farm, but don't kid me for a cowgirl. I was chased by a bull when I was younger....so that ultimately made me fear of cows LOL. Event planning is my passion and through my sorority Delta Gamma I have the position of the social chair. This position consists of planning socials with the other sororities and fraternities on campus, along with planning our semester formal dance. Another passion of mine is animals! My dog Loki is literally my best friend and it kills me that I am not able to spend a lot of time with him during the school year. Originally, I was planning to become a nurse, but after a few major changes I decided to go with Mass Media. My goal is to own a wedding planning business, but I would love to do a variety of event planning until I start my business. I also did not originally plan on attending Washburn, but after my best friend convinced me to tour the school I ended up loving it here. I am also loving Mass Media and I can’t wait to see the growth this course will give us!

This is about me!

Hello, everyone! I am Narumi Hishinuma from Japan. I grew up in a small town, Yokosuka, has an American Navy base and is surrounded by beautiful ocean and mountain. I have played basketball since I was 10 years old, but I like playing any sports.
I was majoring business marketing till last semester but changed major to mass media journalism and minor in business, because math and accounting was out of my head, but I really enjoy mass media.
I love to listen to music and watch movies, hangout with my friends, and go to the gym when I have free time.

I also love to talk to my friends and meet new people. Please feel free to ask me about Japan or me if you have questions!

Hello, my name is Shayley Lust. I grew up in Atchison, KS which is a small town about a hour away from Topeka. My mother and my four sisters ended up moving to Topeka during middle school and I haven’t left since. Some of my hobbies are include cooking, trying new food, traveling, hiking with my dog, and always being the one of taking post worthy pictures of my friends. I chose to study Mass Media because I would like to change the way that media showcases new trends with items with people that don’t resemble the normal people we see every day, this can cause negative opinions about themselves and others. I chose Washburn because one of my sisters graduated from Washburn University and loved it! So, I thought I would give it a try. On my tour I met a lot of great people and felt very comfortable while walking around. I could see myself attending Washburn.I couldn’t be happier with my decision. I joined Alpha Phi and became very involved in geek life, got to take very interesting classes, and have made friendships that I will have for the rest of my life. I’m excited to see where my mass media degree at Washburn will take me.

Crash Course on Josh Cannon

Hello everyone! My name is Josh Cannon. I'm from Greensburg, KS and I'm a freshman Mass Media major, with an emphasis on Film and Video. I've been in the video production field, so to say, since I was in 7th grade. Always helping out filming events around our community, ranging from Sporting Events and Rodeo Events to name a few.  That also ties into my job I have up here, I work for ITS as a production assistant. I start this position on the 1st of February, and I'm really excited about it! I also help film the sporting events, mainly Basketball as of now, around campus. And part of the reason I came to Washburn in the first place was that I had such a positive experience meeting with the heads of the Mass Media department, and I knew from that meeting back in October of 2016, that this would be my new home. Whenever I’m not at work, or stressing over schoolwork, I spend my time listening to music, bands like Tool, Metallica, Led Zeppelin, and Green Day are just a few. I also play on my Xbox One whenever I can find the time. Play a lot of different titles, Assassins Creed, Fallout, GTA V to name a few again. And I think that’ll do it. Hope it was pain-free enough for you guys

Introduction

My name is Genna Berg and I am a freshman. I am from Blue Springs, Missouri. I was born there and lived there my entire life. Blue Springs is one of my absolute favorite places. It's home and always will be. I am a middle child and the only girl. I have an older and a younger brother and they are the absolute best and I know that they would do anything for me. Also, I have a cat named Dobie and he is my absolute favorite thing in the world. My hobbies include, hanging out with friends, playing with my cat and taking multiple naps a day.

I am still undecided on my major, so my reasoning for taking mass media classes is purely based on trying to figure out what I want to do in my life. With not knowing what I want to do and barely knowing anything about mass media, advertising sounds the most interesting to me. I came to washburn because I was recruited to play volleyball. I committed in March of my junior year. I chose Washburn because of how close to home it is and because I really liked the campus, the team and the coaches, and considering all of those things they made my decision that much easier.

Jena Chanay: Introducing Me

Hello! My name is Jena. I was born and raised here in Topeka. I'm a freshman and my emphasis is film and video. A few of my hobbies are photography, videography, watching movies, spending time with family and friends, and going on adventures. I chose to study mass media for several reasons. I first became interested in making movies as a kid with my siblings and cousins. I always had so much fun with it. My passion for photography and videography continued through the years. In High School, I took photography classes and a T.V and Video Production class, which helped me decide what to study and eventually make a career out of. I decided to come to Washburn because it was very familiar to me. I love the opportunities and diversity that Washburn has to offer. I'm excited to meet and work with more people in the same field as me!

Tyler Rottinghaus introduction

My name is Tyler Rottinghaus. I have lived near a little town called Soldier, Kansas since I was born.
Most of my spare time revolves around hunting and fishing. Those are two of my favorite things to do whenever I am not at college.
I am currently majoring in mass media with an emphasis in film and video. Ever since I was eleven, I've wanted to be a movie director and writer. That's because at age 11, I saw First Blood for the first time. That movie was amazing, and I guess you could say it changed my life. Ever since then I have had a passion for film.

Spencer Brown Intro

Hello, my name is Spencer Brown. I was born in Wichita Kansas, I grew up and lived there until I left for college. I graduated Southeast High School in the spring of 2014, and decided to attend Washburn as a very last decision in the Fall. I chose Washburn because it was cheaper than most surrounding schools, close to a lot of friends, and just far enough away from my parents. I left Washburn for a year and attended a community college last year, working everyday and saving up some money, but  I'm back and looking to graduate in 2019. I enjoy working out anywhere I can, playing basketball, just hanging and having a beer with friends, eating Mexican food and doing anything outdoors. I'm currently living in Lawrence making the commute to school and work five days a week. I decided to major in History last fall, and I've recently decided to minor in Mass Media. Looking forward to a good semester!file:///var/folders/lt/xw2v_71n5wsfsjyzysqyqkp00000gn/T/IMG_2750%203.jpg

Blog 1

Hello everyone, my name is Alec Davis and I am a first year student.  I grew up in Tulsa, Oklahoma most of my life and moved to Topeka a few years ago. I graduated from Washburn Rural High School and Washburn Tech last year in May. I enjoy anything outdoors like fishing, hunting, mountain climbing & biking and cars. Every summer I take a trip to the Rocky Mountains to escape the kansas heat for a week or two. While I am there I go fly fishing and mountain biking. I am actually a business major studying entrepreneurship & Innovation. However, I decided to take this class just to explore a little bit. I figured since I'm here for the next four years I might as well try other things. I came to Washburn so I could continue to live with my family a few miles down the street, and so I could continue to work toward getting my electrical journeyman license. During the school year I work a part time job and during the summer I do electrical work for electrical contractors. Also the tuition was less expensive compared to anywhere else in Kansas as long as I continue to live at home.

All About Me

Hey everyone, my name is Rhyan Cropper. I grew up right here in Topeka, Kansas. I have two brothers and two step brothers and I am the only girl. I went to Topeka West high school and was a cheerleader there. I do not do anything that interesting in my free time because I don't really have much free time! When I am not in school I am at work. I work at Hooters as a waitress. Although I do not have much free time I make sure to use it wisely and spend time with my friends and family. I love to watch movies, new and old. I am a big scary movie fan actually. I chose to come to Washburn because of convenience. For a very long time I was indecisive on what I wanted to major in but I've always been interested in journalism so I've decided to expand my knowledge on the subject! I am excited to take this class because I feel as though this will give me more experience that I need to begin my career in journalism.

Hello, my name is Josey Trimble. I was born near the small town of Clyde, Kansas and lived on my family’s small farm for about eleven years. For the next seven years I moved around a bit to cities such as Newton, Wichita, and Strong City, and finally Topeka, KS.
Some of my favorite hobbies include listening to and performing music, spending time with family, playing volleyball, hiking, and traveling. I try to make time for these interests even with a hectic schedule. I currently supervise at Washburn’s Rec Center, hold office in a few on-campus music organizations, sing for a local church and WU music ensembles, and will be starting a new job at the Washburn Review soon.
I originally came to Washburn to study music education with an emphasis in vocal music. After a couple years I realized music education was not the right path for me so I switched to a double major in music and mass media with an emphasis in creative advertising and public relations. Mass media appealed to me because my roommate is a mass media major and I have constantly been interested in the work she was doing in her classes. I also love the number of diverse career opportunities this major can provide. I am excited to keep learning all I can about mass media!

Introduction Blog Post

Hey! My name is Caitlin Lee and I grew up since I was 5 years old in a town outside of Philadelphia, PA called Thornton then moved to Naples, FL. I would love to eventually move back to Pennsylvania sometime after college if possible. I enjoy going to the beach, traveling, playing the piano, watching Netflix, and more. My interests are music, spending time with friends and family, and more.

I am a Communication Major, but I chose to minor in Mass Media because I think that it is a useful field that compliments my major. There’s a lot someone can do with Mass Media and everything that’s involved with it seems intriguing. We all want a job that we enjoy until retirement, might as well do something that you love!

I came to Washburn because I felt right at home on campus and everyone is so friendly. My sister Cassidy goes to Washburn and she is a big advocate for Washburn. I was adopted when I was first born from Topeka, so Washburn is in the perfect location also for me to get close to my birth family. Another reason why I chose Washburn is because I love to travel, meet new people, and experience something different!
