Hello everyone, I’m Eriko Hiranoi and I’m a freshman. My major is mass media with a film emphasis, and my minor is music. Also, I’m international student from Japan in Tokyo, but I was born in Hawaii. When I was three years old, my family moved to Japan, so I grew up in Japan.
I like both to listen to music and perform music, so I really like music. I have played the flute for 14 years. I think music could also help me to express my feelings and thoughts. I believe that it is a great ability of music to deliver messages without words, and music could make people smile spontaneously, just like magic. Also, I’m interested in watching movies. I always watch movies on Netflix and Amazon Video. My favorite director is John Carney, and my favorite actors are Robin Williams and Ben Stiller. The reason I chose to study mass media is because I could use my experiences and skills there.
I have studied music in high school and college in Japan. Now, I hope to gain a better understanding of how sound effects work in films. In Japan, it is practically impossible for me to switch majors or integrate one with another, so I decided to come to Washburn University.
